For too long, politicians in Austin have spent more time scoring political points and playing gotcha’ politics rather than addressing the needs of our great state.  It’s time to put Texas families first, and that’s why I will fight to:

Fully fund our education system so that our teachers can teach and every child has access to high-quality education.  It’s not only a moral imperative. Education is the bedrock of a strong Texas economy. Without quality public education and affordable college, our future economic growth could be at risk.

Develop new infrastructure that can support our rapidly growing population. We must invest in both building and maintaining a multi-modal safe and reliable transportation system, and stop shifting the burden of new construction on to the backs of  individual Texans.

Improve healthcare options for women and children throughout the state. Texas has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation, and one of the highest rates of uninsured children. Austin politicians need to stop playing partisan games at the expense of Texans and accept federal Medicaid funds to expand healthcare access to families across the state. We are home to some of the world’s greatest medical institutions, we must insure this level of care is available to all Texans.

Keep the promises we made to those who wear the uniform and serve our nation in the military by fully supporting service members and their families– both during and after their service. The military adds over $100 billion to the Texas economy. Veterans make up nearly 8 percent of our population.  As an Iraqi war veteran, I know what how important it is to support our service members and their families while they are in uniform and after than return home to civilian life.

Reform our criminal justice system by investing in our mental health infrastructure to provide the early intervention and the medical care needed to keep our most vulnerable from entering the criminal justice system.

Ensure that hard working Texans have access to a living wage and women receive the equal pay for equal work.  Every family member is hurt when mothers are not paid fairly for their hard work.

Our workforce is our strongest resource.  We must make sure that workplaces are safe and that all Texans and free of discrimination and harassment.

Keep Austin politics out of Fort Worth.  The ability to self-govern is essential.  We must stop Austin politicians from chipping away our local control and taking the right to make local decisions away from locally elected city and county leaders.
